A couple struggles to hold on when mental illness intrudes on their marriage in A Beautiful Mind. Tom Hank’s character influences the lives of those around him, despite the language barrier in The Terminal. The visit of a foreign-speaking relative causes a family to re-evaluate their priorities in the movie Uncle Nino.

The DVD release of Spanglish is dished up with commentary from writer/director James L. Brooks and crew, twelve deleted scenes (with optional commentary), two featurettes: HBO First Look: The making of SPANGLISH and Casting Sessions (also with optional commentary), as well as Thomas Keller of French Laundry showing you “How to Make the World’s Greatest Sandwich.” You also get the complete screenplay on DVD-Rom. Audio tracks are available in English and French (both in Dolby Digital 5.1), with closed captioning and English and French subtitles.

Rod Gustafson has worked in various media industries since 1977. He founded Parent Previews in 1993, and today continues to write and broadcast the reviews in newspapers, on radio and (of course) on the Internet. He currently serves as the President of the Alberta Association for Media Awareness, a provincial non-profit society. He also authors a regular column for
