Voices have been raised against New Line Cinema’s production of The Golden Compass in much the same way as the supernatural nature of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series had religious parties concerned, and C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe had anti-Christian groups warning against its allegory of Jesus Christ.

The Golden Compass finds its way onto DVD in both a 16x9 widescreen (2.35:1) and 4x3 full screen version. Bonus extras include animated menus and some sneak previews of upcoming New Line Cinema films. Audio tracks are available in English Dolby Digital 5.1 EX Surround Sound, DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete Audio and English 2.0 Stereo Surround, with subtitles in English and Spanish.
The Golden Compass is also available in a 2-Disc Edition or as a Blue-ray Disc. Buy either of these versions and you’ll receive the widescreen presentation of the movie plus an audio commentary by writer/director Chris Weitz, behind-the-scenes and making-of-featurettes, theatrical trailers, interactive features and an Internet Connect Experience.
